Yes. Foreign nationals, who have resident registration (or alien registration) in Japan and reside in Japan, are eligible to open an account with PRESTIA via Internet, in principle.
We confirm that an applicant is "resident" under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act based on his/her Residence Card. Please make sure that it meets both conditions (A) and (B) below, check other requirements to open an account from here , and apply via Internet when applicable.
- (A)That it has been at least 6 months since entering Japan
If not, an additional document which shows employment in Japan (e.g. employee ID card) is required. - (B)That "Status of Residence" is valid and "Period of Stay" (Date of Expiration) is 3 months or later from the application date.
The following customers are ineligible to open an account online and need to visit a branch. Please contact PRESTIA Phone Banking before visiting your nearest branch.
- A "Foreign Politically Exposed Person", etc. (Foreign PEPs)
- Jurisdiction of tax residence is not "only Japan" or "only Japan and the United States"
If you are leaving Japan to return to your home country or to relocate to another country, we will ask you to close your account before you leave.
