Foreign nationals, who have resident registration (or alien registration) in Japan and reside in Japan, are eligible to open an account with PRESTIA via Internet .
To confirm that an applicant is "resident" under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act, we ask to prepare an ID which shows it has been at least six months since entering Japan or an ID with a supporting document which shows employment in Japan (e.g. employee ID card).   The following customers cannot open an account online. Please contact PRESTIA Phone Banking before visiting your nearest branch.

  • Customer who is a "Foreign Politically Exposed Person", etc. (Foreign PEPs)
  • Customer who is also a tax resident of other country than Japan or United States of America.

If you are leaving Japan to return to your home country or relocating to another country, we will ask you to close your account before you do so.
